WHAT DREW YOU TO THIS POSITION AT LAIKA?

I loved the art that went into Coraline and ParaNorman when I was a teen, so working at LAIKA was always in the back of my mind. When my partner and I decided to move to Oregon, I thought now is my chance to apply!

Additionally, the position I am currently in involves training, development, and creating resources to help employees interact with technology at LAIKA—skills that are all in my wheelhouse.

WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING IN THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT AT LAIKA?

Working in the Technology department is a unique experience because every day can be different. Priorities shift and needs change, but helping end users at the studio is always a top priority. LAIKA is full of talented employees, so working with others and collaboratively finding solutions together is all part of the process.

I love looking for opportunities to improve someone’s work experience and how they interact with technology. I am inspired by my team and get excited when we can come together to try something new or change a current process for the better.

WHAT IS THE DYNAMIC LIKE ON YOUR TEAM?

My team makes me feel valued, and we are always there to support one another. My manager provides us all great mentorship and guidance. She really encourages ideas from our team and helps us realize them. My team members also are eager to provide their perspectives, and this has helped me grow professionally.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT WORKING AT LAIKA?

I enjoy working with some of the most talented people in the world! In every shop and department, I feel like I am talking with people who have such a wide range of skills, interests, and hobbies—it is incredible. Additionally, walking around the stages and seeing sets in progress is fascinating. I see something grow from concept to reality, and it is amazing!

Being a co-captain for LAIKA’s Somos Employee Resource Group is also very energizing for me. It’s so rewarding to share our Hispanic/Latiné heritage and excitement with our friends and team members at the studio through meaningful and intentional events and experiences. Additionally, our ERG works with the Outreach Committee and others at LAIKA to bring stop-motion magic to the local community. Our hope for these visits is to leave people inspired and educated about career opportunities in the arts.
