HOW DO I APPLY FOR A POSITION AT LAIKA?
Visit WWW.LAIKA.COM/CAREERS to review our current openings and apply for a position. Acceptable resume formats include: PDF (.pdf), MS Word (.doc/.docx), Plain Text (.txt), or Rich Text Format (.rtf).
If applicable, please include your portfolio URL in the website field of your application.
CAN I APPLY BY JUST SENDING IN MY RESUME?
We cannot accept unsolicited applications via email or US mail. Due to the volume of requests, we only review applicants who have applied through our website at WWW.LAIKA.COM/CAREERS.
TO WHOM CAN I ADDRESS MY RESUME OR COVER LETTER?
If you choose to create a cover letter (not required), please address it to “Recruiting”.
DO I NEED TO PROVIDE A DEMO REEL OR PORTFOLIO WITH MY APPLICATION?
Portfolios and reels are only required if specified in the application. Please be sure to read the job description and application thoroughly to ensure you have included all relevant materials.
DO I NEED TO SEND YOU A MATERIALS SUBMISSION AGREEMENT IF I APPLIED ONLINE?
No; when applying online you must authorize approval of the agreement by selecting “YES” to our Employment Disclaimer and Materials Submission Agreement, which grants us permission to view your submitted materials.
HOW DO I KNOW IF A POSITION HAS BEEN CLOSED OR IF I AM NO LONGER IN CONSIDERATION?
LAIKA removes all job listings on the LAIKA Careers Opportunity page once a decision has become finalized. Therefore, all job postings located at WWW.LAIKA.COM/CAREERS are current and up-to-date. A member from our Recruiting department will only contact you if it is determined your skills and experience match the position, and we are unable to provide status updates to applicants.
I HAVE MY OWN COMPANY, HOW DO I SET UP A COMPANY PROFILE?
Due to the volume of requests and our standardized hiring practices, we must limit ourselves to screening only individual applicants—not companies—that have applied for a specific position.
I AM A MUSICIAN, HOW DO I SUBMIT MY MUSIC FOR CONSIDERATION?
LAIKA does not accept unsolicited audio material or voice talent submissions.
I HAVE A STORY IDEA; HOW DO I SUBMIT MY SCRIPT OR CONCEPT FOR CONSIDERATION?
LAIKA does not accept unsolicited scripts or pitches without proper representation.
DO YOU HIRE STAFF POSITIONS, OR ARE THEY PROJECT-BASED?
LAIKA offers two types of employment opportunities, which vary based on each position:
Production staff positions are roles specifically oriented to the current projects at LAIKA.
Studio staff positions are roles that serve LAIKA Studios operations and are not production oriented.

DO YOU OFFER RELOCATION ASSISTANCE?
LAIKA offers relocation assistance for some positions, full details shared upon hire. The benefit amount varies depending on the type of position, department budgets, and production schedules.
I WILL BE VISITING PORTLAND, COULD I GET A TOUR OR MEET WITH A RECRUITER WHILE IN TOWN?
We are not able to accommodate individual tours of the studio, and, unfortunately, we are unable to meet with every applicant. If it is determined your skills and experience match a position, our Recruiting department will contact you.

WHERE WOULD I GET THE TRAINING NECESSARY TO WORK AS AN ARTIST AT LAIKA?
There are many schools with programs in art and/or technology that can provide a student with a strong educational foundation. LAIKA employees come from a variety of different schools and programs, including but not limited to:

MY HIGH SCHOOL REQUIRES ME TO PARTICIPATE IN A JOB SHADOW PROGRAM AND I WOULD LIKE TO SPEND THE DAY AT LAIKA, WOULD YOU LET ME SHADOW ONE OF YOUR ARTISTS OR WORK FOR FREE JUST FOR THE EXPERIENCE?
Unfortunately, our production schedule prevents us from participating in job shadow programs. We appreciate your understanding that we are unable to provide this type of hands-on learning experience.
CAN I VOLUNTEER AT LAIKA?
Please understand that it is not possible to volunteer at LAIKA. FLSA restrictions prevent the use of volunteers for non-civic, non-charitable, or non-humanitarian reasons.
WHEN WILL SUMMER INTERNSHIPS BE POSTED ONLINE?
It is our hope that we will be able to host interns during the Summer of 2021, should healthy and safety standards allow. Please check back in Spring 2021 for further updates.
WHAT KIND OF INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DO YOU OFFER?
LAIKA offers internship positions in a variety of production areas. All internship positions are posted on our career page at WWW.LAIKA.COM/CAREERS when available.
WHAT TYPES OF INTERN DOES LAIKA HIRE?
LAIKA hires a variety of individuals with a range of skills and talents. Each year, our internship positions change, but we have previously had programs that included:
- Art Fabrication Intern
- Costume Design Intern
- Costume Fabricator Intern
- Stop Motion Animation Intern
- CG Animation Intern
- RP CG Rigging Intern
WILL I NEED A REEL OR PORTFOLIO TO APPLY FOR AN INTERNSHIP?
Yes; due to the volume of materials we receive, we must restrict our recruitment process to only those applicants that have provided us with enough information to make an informed decision.
WHAT SHOULD I SHOWCASE IN MY PORTFOLIO?
For guidance on what to showcase in your portfolio, please seek direction from your career advisor and/or career center at your current school.
CAN YOU GIVE ADVICE ON WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN A REEL OR PORTFOLIO? OR CAN I GET FEEDBACK ON MY SUBMITTED WORK?
Due to the volume of materials we receive, we are unable to provide feedback on submitted reels or portfolios.
WHEN DO YOU HOST INTERNS?
Our typical internship program runs during the Summer months. However, this could delay to the Fall or potential cancellation of programs given global circumstances such as COVID-19.
All internships are hosted in-house, and we do not offer the opportunity to intern remotely.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE INTERNSHIP?
Students must be available for eight consecutive weeks; most internships last twelve weeks. Exact dates to be determined upon hire.
WHAT ARE LAIKA'S INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS?
Students must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior in a college or a university, or within 1 year of their graduation. We will also accept postgraduate students who are currently enrolled in a relevant program. This stipulation has been put in place to abide by our established internship guidelines, and we cannot make exceptions.
CAN I APPLY TO YOUR INTERNSHIPS IF I AM NOT IN COLLEGE OR GRADUATED SEVERAL YEARS AGO?
No; we only accept junior or senior-level college students or individuals who are no more than 1 year beyond their graduation that have already shown exceptional promise within their specialty. We will also accept postgraduate students who are currently enrolled in a relevant program.
ARE LAIKA INTERNSHIPS PAID?
Yes; LAIKA only offers paid internships. We do not offer internships for college credit.
WILL LAIKA COVER HOUSING FOR INTERNS?
LAIKA does not offer housing assistance for internships. Upon accepting an offer, it is the intern's responsibility to secure housing for the duration of the program.
CAN I APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE POSITION?
You are welcome to apply to as many internship positions that you feel are a match for your skills and experience. Please be sure to read the job description carefully to ensure you meet the minimum qualifications.
DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP APPLICATIONS?
We do offer internships to international students enrolled at a US college or university if the students can get a visa that allows them to be employed in the US (e.g. OPT visa). We encourage international candidates interested in employment opportunities at LAIKA to familiarize themselves with the qualifications required for the various visas (O-1, TN, H-1B, etc.) and to investigate whether or not you meet those legal requirements. ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL STEPS WHEN APPLYING FROM OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES?
