Oscar®-winning animation studio, creators of Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and the upcoming Missing Link, scores big with second annual installation    

Neil Gaiman, Henry Selick, Teri Hatcher Among Special Guests Joining LAIKA President & CEO Travis Knight for Memorable Fan Activations

[Hillsboro, OR; July 27, 2018] – Coraline, Norman, Eggs, Fish and Sparky, Kubo, Monkey and Mr. Link are all headed back to the Oscar-winning studio just outside Portland, Oregon but for the fans who lined up for up to four hours to get an inside look at the artistry and magic of their favorite animation studio, special moments from LAIKA LIVE still resonate with excitement.   

LAIKA officially launched the 10th anniversary celebration of Coraline in San Diego. Teri Hatcher, whose voicing of Mother/Other Mother in the film drew universal praise, greeted fans and posed for photos with the first ever Coraline and Other Mother walkaround characters then shot an entire day of activities for an upcoming webisode of her YouTube series Van Therapy

Neil Gaiman, author of the Coraline novella, joined LAIKA President & CEO Travis Knight on Saturday, July 21st for signings and a Facebook Live event hosted by Nerdist. Henry Selick, who wrote and directed LAIKA’s 2009 film version, greeted fans and signed Coraline merchandise.

LAIKA LIVE, located at 350 Fifth Avenue, featured an up-close look at the artistic detail and imagination behind LAIKA’s groundbreaking films, all of which have been nominated for Academy Awards® and numerous other honors. The exhibit showcased the evolution of the studio’s unique blend of handcrafted stop-motion animation and visual effects magic and included:

  • a chance to meet the walkaround character of Mr. Link, the star of LAIKA’s newest film, Missing Link, set for release domestically on April 19, 2019 by Annapurna.
  • the iconic Pink Palace from Coraline
  • a stop-motion animation work station
  • a recreation of LAIKA’s “puppet hospital,” where manhandled puppets go for tender loving care over the course of a long production shoot sets from Kubo and The Boxtrolls
  • a wall of Puppet Faces illustrating LAIKA’s Oscar®-winning innovations in 3D printing
  • LAIKA’s on site merchandise store, which broke sales records
